Jazz at Lincoln Center

For the 2019–20 concert season, we have refined and unified the look. I created a custom wordmark based on Hoefler & Co.’s Tungsten and refreshed the typography across the board. The Creative team built on last year’s colorful and expressive studio photography, elevating it to work in tandem with new graphics, motion, and text elements. We took a digital-first approach, but print is a huge part of Jazz’s collateral, and the examples here show both coming together in a unified way. A few non-concert season examples are included at bottom.

For the 2018–19 concert season, we foregrounded a younger stable of performers to capture Jazz’s energy and immediacy, while also remaining true to the organization’s heritage of showcasing legendary performers. We worked with photographer Piper Ferguson, who shot eleven guest artists and Jazz’s 16-member orchestra over two days–and captured video of each performer in their element, improvising. Using rich color backgrounds and highlight gels, our studio photography has a live feel, which suits jazz best. The studio capture was used as the basis for our marketing and subscriptions campaigns: Print and digital posters, season minisite, social media, and various multimedia advertising platforms with which to sell tickets and promote the organization through 2019.
